Where do I start. OK, Matt and I decided to start a stud after our foundation
stallion Sunday's Destiny was born in January 2004. Sure, it was always a dream
of mine but never thought I would get to live it! So we had one mare with colt
foal at foot and slowly started to build up. We purchased a couple of mares in
foal (Fame's dam was one of them who unfortunately died through a paddock accident)
and eventually bought a 3/4 clydex colt named Logan (sire of Destiny's French
Connection, Destiny's Harmony, Destiny's Night Empress and Destiny's Duchess)
who was eighteen months of age at the time. He was to be a temp until our boy
Des was old enough to do the job. Of course we needed to buy more mares so he
had mares to run with. This went well and when our boy Des was old enough, we
sold Logan (Caballero) to Foothills Stud while he was being started under saddle
by Kiri of Awatea Farms. So now we were organised and had our stud with our foundation
stallion (Des), mares and foals. But this was not the end of things as I saw a
very cute weanling palomino clyde x colt named Toby and decided to buy him. Toby
lived here at the farm and he is sire of a couple of foals born 2008. Sadly, I
did not have the time to give him that he deserved and so he was sold as a three
year old. You can look around the rest of our website (if you haven't done so)
to see what our stud consists of in the way of horses these days.I could have
gone in to more detail about each horse over the period of four years that we
have been a stud for but do not want to bore you! So four years later, we have
sold progeny and still going strong with people getting to know who we are in
NZ. To give some detail about us personally, Matt was not really interested in
horses to start with but now he is a valuable addition to this stud. He is such
a great help and the foals instantly seem to like him. He tows the float and that
is a life saver because that is not something I have the courage to do! As for
me, I spent most of my life with horses from riding in the farmlands as a kid
to working in a racing stables for ten years. I tried the showing side such as
showjumping and even hunting but found that I am a more laid back rider and prefer
to ride on the farm and cruise along. So in the end it may seem all like a box
of fluffies but there are times when mistakes can be made. We cannot please everyone
and we just take the good with the bad. There are times when we may lose a foal
or horse and know it is a part of breeding. We like to find the best homes for
our youngstock whether it be a showing home or a farm home because as long as
they are loved, that is the most important thing. Above is just a short version
of the time spent over these last four years. We are down to earth and have a
long lasting love for horses. I hope that no matter what reason you may of had
to look at our website, you enjoy life to the fullest and make the most of each
day.
Matt and Leonie.
